Incident
Police Officer Raymond Willert was shot and killed while responding to a robbery in progress. As Officer Willert walked past the bank window the suspects, who were still inside, opened fire and struck Officer Willert in the head. Other officers apprehended the men. The shooter, 29, was apprehended and sentenced to life in prison. He was denied parole on March 13, 1986. Officer Willert had served with the Turlock Police Department for five years.

He was survived by his wife and 3-year-old daughter.
