Incident

Officer Paul Mitchell died of injuries sustained in an automobile crash while responding to a call at 2:20 a.m. Officer Mitchell was en route to back up another officer in a traffic stop when he swerved to avoid a vehicle stalled on Ritchie Highway and Americana Circle in Glen Burnie. His patrol vehicle slid on the ice, and he crashed into a pole. Officer Mitchell was transported to University Hospital where he succumbed to his internal injuries. Officer Mitchell was a United States Navy veteran and had served with the Anne Arundel County Police Department for three years.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife.
