Incident

Night Marshal Ord Riddell was shot and killed as he and the Sunflower County sheriff attempted to arrest a man wanted for stealing a vehicle.

Marshal Riddell was watching the rear of the house as the sheriff went to the front door. As the sheriff entered the man fled out of the back and shot Marshal Riddell in the neck. The man then fled into the woods.

Marshal Riddell had served with the Indianola Police Department for at least one year.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife, daughter, and two sons.
