Incident
Officer Nathan Lincks was killed when the police vehicle he was driving was struck head-on by a transit bus on West 10th Street. Officer Lincks was en route to a Police Athletic League community event to coach the youth ball team when he noticed a young military man walking in the rain. The young man had just arrived by bus and was walking home. Officer Lincks picked the soldier up to give him a ride home in the opposite direction when the accident occurred. As Officer Lincks and his passenger sat at a traffic light, a city metro bus swerved to avoid another vehicle that had pulled into its path. The bus crossed several lanes of traffic, skidding on the wet roadway, and collided head-on into Officer Lincks' vehicle. Officer Lincks was killed instantly and his passenger died one hour later at Wishard Hospital. Officer Lincks had served with the Indianapolis Police Department for 17 years.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife and two young sons.
