Incident
Constable McAllister was off duty at his home in Woodland Park, Lisburn, County Antrim, when, about 12:50pm, two men arrived under the pretence of viewing the officer’s racing pigeons.
After a few minutes chatting with Millar in the back of his bungalow, one of the men produced a pistol and opened fire without warning. Constable McAllister was struck several times in the head and body and despite his injuries, he managed to stagger back into the kitchen, but died a short time later.
Millar joined the RUC in 1961 and was a highly popular member of the Constabulary. In 1971 he was appointed to the photographic branch at RUC headquarters.
He was married and had two sons, aged eight and twelve years, who witnessed their father’s murder.
