Biography

Officer Michael Edward Reid died by suicide on March 24, 2017. He was born in Mobile, Alabama and graduated from Satsuma High School, Class of 1989. He worked for the Henry County Police Department for 18 years and was a parishioner of Abiding Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hampton. Mike was active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed camping with his son. He loved spending time with his family at the beach, traveling, watching TV and was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan. His son, Josh, honored his father through an Eagle Scout project earlier this year. Josh refinished the existing benches of the Henry Public Safety Building and added a “thin blue line” design with his father’s name, badge and end of watch date, and built a table for people who need to write statements or fill out forms at the police department. In addition to earning his Eagle Scout status, Josh graduated high school this year. Mike was a beloved member of his community and is missed dearly by his son and wife, Becky, of 19 years. According to his family, Mike was just a regular guy, but he was their favorite guy.
