Michael Anthony Pimentel
Incident
Chief of Police Michael Pimentel was shot and killed after stopping a vehicle in a residential area near the intersection of South 1st Avenue and East 9th Street at approximately 11:30 a.m.
A struggle ensued during the stop, and Chief Pimentel was shot multiple times. He was flown to University Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.
Bexar County deputies responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody. The shooter was acquitted by reason of insanity.
Chief Pimentel was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in law enforcement for 43 years and had previously served as the police chief of the San Antonio Independent School District Police Department.
Survivors
He was survived by his daughter, son, stepdaughter, mother, two brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter.
