Incident

Patrolman Michael Madigan was shot and killed during a prohibition inspection of a soft drink parlor at 2724 South Union Avenue. As he searched for illegal alcohol in a cupboard behind the bar, the bartender pulled out a revolver and opened fire. Patrolman Madigan's partner returned fire wounding the bartender. Patrolman Madigan was seriously wounded and died later in a hospital. The suspect was tried and acquitted.

Patrolman Madigan was survived by his expectant wife.
