Incident

On patrol with his Inspector they were patrolling in Bradford in the early hours when they spotted two youths trying to steal a car in Low Moor. Both officers gave chase and as he arrested one of the males he was repeatedly stabbed in the chest and back. He later died in hospitalPosthumously awarded the Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct.

Both officers gave chase and as Sergeant Hawcroft arrested one of the males he was repeatedly stabbed in the chest and back. He died later in hospital and was posthumously awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Brave Conduct.
