Incident

Corporal Michael Beverly was shot and killed while on patrol near 10th and Ward Streets at approximately 9:30 pm.

Two suspects were apprehended the following year. One of the killers was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison in March 2004.

Corporal Beverly was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served with the Chester Police Department for 11 years and had previously served with the Delaware County Prison.

He is survived by his wife and five children.
