Incident
Deputy Maurice Miller was shot and killed when he attempted to serve a summons for non-support at a farmhouse on U.S. Highway 71 in Bossier Parish at 2:00 p.m. Other officers arrived on the scene, and the subject refused to release the body from the home and surrender, resulting in a stand-off. The suspect then shot and killed Chief Edward Huckabay of the Shreveport Police Department and injured another deputy when they attempted to retrieve the body of Deputy Miller at 4:30 p.m. A gunfight and a stand-off ensued until the suspect was shot and killed by other officers. Deputy Miller was a United States Army WWII military policeman who had served with the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office for five years and previously served with the Louisiana State Police for two years.
