Incident
Police Constable Marcus Bennett died following a sudden medical episode while on duty. Marcus served with the Civil Nuclear Constabulary for 20 years, dedicating his entire career to the Harwell Operational Police Unit as a highly respected and dependable firearms officer.
Joining the CNC in 2005, Marcus quickly became known for his professionalism, commitment to the job, and absolute dedication to keeping others safe. Steady in difficult moments, always ready to help, and often bringing a touch of humour to lift the mood, he was the kind of officer people trusted instinctively.
Chief Constable Simon Chesterman described Marcus’s passing as “an awful tragedy, profoundly felt by his colleagues and friends” and paid tribute to “his colleagues who tried valiantly to save his life.”
Marcus was a devoted husband to Carly and a proud father to Ella and Harry. Their home was full of laughter, music, and love, often shared with the many foster children they welcomed over the years. He loved family holidays by the sea, cooking favourite meals, and filling the house with music from heavy metal one moment to a pop classic the next.
