The suspect was also shot and was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The second officer was not injured. Cst. Marc Hovingh was a 28-year veteran of the OPP, a model police officer and Christian. He was posted to the OPP Detachment on Manitoulin Island where he was well-known and liked by the community. Cst. Hovingh was married with four children. Our condolences go out to Constable Marc Hovingh’s family, friends and colleagues. He will be remembered. As we start 2026, we can look back and note that we have been very fortunate to not have lost anyone in Canada to a Line of Duty Death (LODD) these last two years.
