While responding to an emergency call concerning an assault at a public house in Armagh City, Reserve Constable Cheyne and two colleagues, Constables Gordon Arnott Anderson and Denis Joseph Maguire, were killed when their RUC vehicle ran out of control and struck a bridge wall at Ballymoran, between Armagh and Newtownhamilton, County Armagh.
