Incident

Patrolman Louis Phipps suffered a fatal heart attack after being assaulted in struck in the chest while attempting to arrest an intoxicated person at a local dance party on Pleasant Street.

He was taken to his home where he remained bedridden for four days before passing away as a result of the injury.

Patrolman Phipps had served with the Ashland Police Department for one year.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife and five children.
