Incident

Cpl. Ryder served with the Third Royal Canadian Garrison Artillery in the First World War. Prior to joining the Force he worked as a Customs Officer for the Preventive Service. Cpl. Ryder spent most of his service at the Fredericton Detachment in New Brunswick. He had a number of glowing tributes and commendations on his file that allude to his courageous acts and dangerous arrests. On September 2, 1942, Cpl. Ryder was attacked from behind and the blow caused him to fall and he hit the back of his head on the bumper of a car. Four months later, he suffered a stroke which is presumed to be a result of the altercation. Cpl. Ryder was married to Vera and they had a son.
