Incident
Trooper Kevin Trainor was killed in a vehicle crash on Route 1 in Lynnfield.
Around 2:00 a.m., 911 calls reported a wrong-way driver on Route 1. When Trooper Trainor responded, he collided with the driver. Trooper Trainor was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation revealed he had consumed nine alcoholic drinks from 9:20 to 12:53 p.m., with an alcohol blood concentration of 0.192, over twice the legal limit. Video recorded the driver exiting the southbound lanes of Route 1, hitting a guardrail, running a red light, making a left turn, and reentering the northbound lanes while traveling southbound. The restaurant has received a notice alleging multiple violations of civil regulations for serving alcoholic drinks after hours and for serving free drinks.
Trooper Trainor had served with the Massachusetts State Police for three years, assigned to the Danvers Barracks.
