Incident

Police Officer Kevin Tonn was shot and killed after responding to a burglary call in the 200 block of F Street at approximately 11:20 am.

Upon arriving at the scene, a witness pointed to a suspect who was nearby. As Officer Tonn approached the man to question him, the subject produced a gun and fired a single shot, striking Officer Tonn. The man fired at other responding officers before committing suicide.

Officer Tonn was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officer Tonn was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Galt Police Department for three and a half years. He had previously served as a firefighter and medic.

Survivors

He is survived by his parents and sister.
