Incident

Constable Joe Kolb was shot and killed as he and other members of a posse searched for a still at Pine Prairie, approximately four miles from Huntsville.

The posse encountered a subject who ordered them to put their hands in the air. When the posse members refused to obey the commands the man opened fire, mortally wounding Constable Kolb. He was taken to the state penitentiary hospital in Huntsville where he died shortly after midnight.

Four subjects were arrested and charged with Constable Kolb's murder, but the outcome of their trial is not known.
