Incident
Sergeant Platt and Police Officer Kevin McCarthy were killed when their cruiser was broadsided at an intersection by a drunk driver. The two officers were on routine patrol in a residential area when the driver of a pickup truck failed to obey a stop sign. The truck struck the cruiser at a high rate of speed which caused the cruiser to flip over and strike a utility pole. Both officers were killed instantly. The suspect was sentenced to six years in prison followed by five years of probation.
