Incident

Deputy Sheriff John Sack was shot and killed while serving a warrant on a man for a code violation for not cutting his grass. Deputy Sack told the man to get his ATM card so that he could post bail. As Deputy Sack exited the residence at 2102 North University Street, in Peoria, to wait for the man he was shot in the back. The man was shot and killed in the ensuing standoff. Deputy Sack was a U.S. Army Reserve veteran and had served with the Peoria County Sheriff's Office for 20 years.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife, son and two daughters.
