Incident

Deputy Sheriff John Mayfield was killed in a vehicle crash while on routine patrol with his senior officer.

Around 10:00 p.m., Deputy Mayfield's patrol vehicle was passing another car on LA Highway 14 near Harris Road when it crashed head-on with a truck, traveling in the eastbound lane. Deputy Mayfield, who was in the front passenger seat, died at the scene. His partner was seriously injured.

Deputy Mayfield was a United States Army veteran and had served with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office for six months.
