Shot in the chest and fatally wounded in Hyndland Road when, with a colleague who was also shot, he approached an armed man who was wanted for questioning about a bank theft and who, without warning, suddenly opened fire. Posthumously awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Brave Conduct.
