Incident

Marshal Brewer succumbed to gunshot wounds received five days earlier while attempting to arrest a drunk man. A struggle ensued and Marshal Brewer was shot in an arm and lung. Despite being wounded Marshal Brewer was able to take the suspect into custody.

The man, 40, was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in the electric chair. His sentence was commuted to life in 1948. He was paroled on August 8, 1957.

Marshal Brewer was survived by his wife and five children.
