Cpl. Galloway was shot after gunfire erupted at the scene of a standoff at a home in Spruce Grove Alberta. RCMP were called and advised by neighbours that there was an agitated man holed up in a nearby residence and he was armed. The RCMP emergency response team was called in to seal off the area. At around 1800 hours the suspect attempted to leave the area in a vehicle. Gunfire erupted and Cpl. Galloway and the suspect both sustained severe injuries. They were taken to hospital by ambulance where Cpl. Galloway and the suspect were pronounced dead. As we start 2026, we can look back and note that we have been very fortunate to not have lost anyone in Canada to a Line of Duty Death (LODD) these last two years.
