Incident
Patrolman Jeffery Ginn was shot and killed after he responded to a disturbance call in which a man was burning marijuana leaves in a barbeque pit in his backyard at 1506 Pecan Drive. Unbeknownst to Patrolman Ginn, the resident of the home was a mental patient who had made threats against the police department several times. As Patrolman Ginn approached the backyard while holding his radio the man saw him and opened fire with an M-1 carbine rifle. Patrolman Ginn was struck several times in the side. He was able to crawl to a nearby tree in an attempt to seek cover. The suspect then walked up to Patrolman Ginn, disarmed him, and shot him point-blank in the head with his own service weapon. The man then held a woman hostage for nearly 20 hours before committing suicide. Patrolman Ginn had served with the Pasadena Police Department for eight years.

He was survived by his wife, two children, and parents.
