Shot dead on guard duty when a police rifle accidentally discharged.
Shot dead by the accidental discharge of a rifle while on duty at a bridge near Kinawley, County Fermanagh. Sixteen weeks earlier, on 11th February, he survived the gun battle at Clones Railway Station, County Monaghan, when four officers were killed.
