Incident
Privates Julius Bullock, John Carpenter, James Hall, John Wilson, and Thomas Scott were killed during the Kickapoo War.
The Group of Texas Rangers left Fort Houston to attack a band of Indians and Mexicans. About six miles from the fort, the rangers were attacked. Private Carpenter pursued a chief into the woods; they both shot and killed each other. Privates Bullock, Scott, and Wilson were also killed. Two other rangers were wounded.
On October 16, 1838, another group of about 260 rangers was attacked by an estimated 150 to 600 Indians. 13 were wounded during the incident. Private James Hall was badly wounded, he succumbed to his wounds on December 17, 1838.
They were all buried in unmarked graves at the Fort Houston cemetery.
