Incident
Deputy Sheriff Ivan Null was shot and killed while investigating a robbery of a store that had occurred earlier in the evening. Deputy Null had approached a parked vehicle at a service station in Holtville to question its three occupants about the robbery. As he looked into the window he was shot twice by one of the suspects who was armed with a rifle. All three suspects were arrested a short time later after they crashed their car into a police barricade. All three suspects, ages 20, 22, and 23, were convicted of first degree murder on November 20th, 1935, and sentenced to life in prison. The 20-year-old was paroled on February 5th, 1952.
