Incident

Deputy Sheriff Henry Mumpower died from complications of a strangulated hernia, which he suffered four days earlier while packing out two stills from the mountains.

He was returning to Abingdon when his condition worsened. He was taken to Kings Mountain Hospital in Bristol, where he remained until passing away four days later.

Deputy Mumpower had served with the Washington County Sheriff's Office for eight years and served the Three Springs area.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife and eight children.
