As Officer Caraballo got out of his patrol car, while Officer Spivey was calling in the tag, he approached the vehicle on the drivers side and when he bent down to talk to the driver he was shot in the cheek by a 38 revolver. The driver fled the scene and was pursued by other officers to a house on Walker St. in Douglas, Georgia where he was killed during the conflict. It was later discovered that the suspect was wanted for rape and other charges.
