Incident

Trooper Harold Johnson and Chief of Police Andrew Malloy, of the Lancaster Police Department, were killed when their cruiser was struck by a train while returning from a court hearing in Groveton. The train was backing up and there were no warnings at the unmarked crossing. A third officer was injured in the accident. Trooper Johnson had served with the New Hampshire State Police for 24 years.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife, son, and two daughters.
