Harold B. Broadwell
Incident
Motorcycle Officer Harold Broadwell was killed in a motorcycle crash while pursuing a vehicle on the El Monte Road in front of the Five Mile House (near the modern-day junction of Valley Boulevard and the Long Beach Freeway). He was pursuing a speeding vehicle when it suddenly braked. He took evasive action by turning his motorcycle into the opposite lane. The motorcycle collided with a car traveling in the other direction and he was thrown approximately 70 feet. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries a few hours later.
Survivors
Officer Broadwell was survived by his wife and two children.
