Biography
Investigator Gregory Scott Ellison served with the New York State Police for 26 years and had been retired just 4 months when he died by suicide on August 18, 2016. Scott started his career in the United States Marine Corp where he served until his honorable discharge. He then joined the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office where he served for 8 years. One of the youngest in this department to be promoted to Sergeant, he also experienced the most enjoyable duty of his entire law enforcement career here while being assigned as a K-9 Unit and worked with his canine partner “Sport”. In 1990, he went to the New York State Police Academy and became a New York State Trooper. Scott graduated first in his class and received the Superintendent’s Award. During his time as a New York Trooper, he worked as a Patrol Trooper and a School Resource Office. He was also an Investigator in the Video Lottery Unit, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, and finally the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team. An exemplary police officer, Greg conducted himself with the utmost professionalism. An avid golfer, hunter, NASCAR fan, and grill master, Greg was a family man, and his most cherished times were the times spent with them. He started and finished several projects around the house and was even scheduled to leave for a family vacation before he lost his inner battle. Survived by his loving wife, mother, children, siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and life-long friends, Greg will be deeply missed.
