Incident

Corporal Jerry Simmons was shot and killed while monitoring an undercover drug buy from a hotel room. During the transaction, the suspect decided to kill the confidential informant. In an attempt to save the man's life, Corporal Simmons entered the hotel room from the adjoining room. The suspect opened fire, striking Corporal Simmons in the eye. Corporal Simmons was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his wound. Corporal Simmons had served with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office for three years.

Survivors

He was survived by his parents and four sisters.
