Incident

Fatally injured when he and a colleague came upon two men, dressed as prison officers, acting suspiciously outside The State Mental Hospital in Carstairs. On approaching the two men, escaped patients who had already murdered a nurse and a patient during their breakout, he was attacked with an axe and hacked to death. The men then escaped in the police vehicle, leaving George for dead, by the roadside. PC Taylor’s colleague was badly wounded in the incident but survived.
