George Melvin Brown Sr.
Incident
Investigator George Brown was killed in an automobile crash on Route 86 near Yanceyville while transporting a prisoner from North Carolina back to Henry County, Virginia. The suspect was wanted in connection with the burglary of a local florist and was arrested in North Carolina. The two were only a few miles from the Virginia border when the unmarked department vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and struck a tractor-trailer head-on at 4:20 p.m. Investigator Brown and the suspect were both killed. The driver of the tractor trailer stated that he observed the two occupants of the vehicle struggling as the car veered into his lane of traffic. Investigator Brown was a United States Army Korean War veteran and served with the Henry County Sheriff's Office for 17 years.

He was survived by his wife and son.
