Incident

Officer Freddie Dukes was shot and killed when he intervened in a robbery while off duty. Officer Dukes confronted one of the suspects in the establishment but was shot by a second suspect with a shotgun. The suspect committed suicide as members of the department's SWAT team attempted to arrest him at a home where he had taken two hostages. Officer Dukes was a U.S Army veteran and served with the Philadelphia Police Department for five years. He was assigned to the Highway Patrol Division.
