Fred Louis Klenk
Incident
Patrolman Fred Klenk succumbed to injuries sustained on November 23rd, 1935, when he was struck by a drunk driver while directing traffic at the railroad crossing at Spring Grove Avenue and Vine Street in St. Bernard, Ohio. The driver fled the scene but was arrested several hours later. Patrolman Klenk suffered a compound fracture of the leg. Complications developed and he underwent several operations. He remained hospitalized from the time of the incident until his death. A witness took down the license number of the car and notified the police. The driver was arrested and fined $75.
