Incident

Deputy Eric Salter died after being involved in a single vehicle accident while transporting two prisoners.

Deputy Salter was driving the two prisoners to jail when his patrol car struck an oil patch on U.S. Route 1 and flipped over three times. A second deputy's patrol car also flipped when it struck the same oil patch as he was responding to assist Deputy Salter. Deputy Salter was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead approximately two hours later.

Survivors

Deputy Salter had been in law enforcement for five years, and is survived by his wife and three young daughters.
