Incident

Detective Sergeant Roggers was assassinated by members of the Detroit Purple Gang. Detective Roggers was a member of the Detroit Police Sicilian Squad and was investigating the crime gang when he was ambushed and shot 12 times on Lafayette Street between Orleans Street and Riopelle Street. Detective Sergeant Roggers was a veteran of Spanish-American War, and had served in both Cuba and the Philippines.
