Incident

Assistant Chief Horton was shot and killed by another officer in her department after the officer, who was also her brother-in-law, became enraged over a scheduling conflict. Assistant Chief Horton, who drove to her brother-in-law’s home to tell him about a scheduling change, took cover in a bathroom as the suspect began shooting through the door. She was shot a total of 14 times before being transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
