Incident
Deputy Sheriff Eddie Evans was killed after being struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 85 near Braselton. Around 3:00 p.m., a passing truck hit Deputy Evans as he was walking to his patrol vehicle. He was killed instantly. Deputy Evans had served with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for eight years. He was survived by his wife, son, and daughter. In 2019, Interstate 85 between mile markers 131 and 133 in Jackson County was dedicated as the Edward Monroe Evans Highway.
