Shot dead alongside his two colleagues, Sergeant John Flynn and Constable William Brick, when their patrol was ambushed by terrorist gunmen about a mile from their barracks in the village of Timoleague, County Cork. Posthumously awarded the Constabulary Medal for Gallantry.
