Edmond J. Songy Jr.
Incident
Officer Skipper Songy was struck and killed by a drunk driver while directing traffic at an accident scene on I-10 near Exit 206.
Officer Songy was in uniform and wearing a reflective traffic vest while directing traffic from I-10 to Louisiana Highway 3188. at the time.
The drunk driver was arrested and charged with manslaughter. The 55-year-old driver entered a plea of guilty to reckless operation of a motor vehicle. He paid a $200 fine, plus $108 court costs, and received six months of inactive probation.
Officer Songy had been employed with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Department for six years.
Survivors
He is survived by his wife.
