On Monday 2nd May 2016 Dougie was on duty en route to an emergency call at the Travel Inn, Edinburgh Road in Bellshill when he collapsed. He was rushed to Wishaw General Hospital but died in the early hours of Tuesday 3rd May 2016.

Died in Wishaw General Hospital the day after he collapsed while responding to an emergency call at the Travel Inn, Edinburgh Road, Bellshill, Lanarkshire.
