Incident
Sergeant West was shot and killed when he and his partner responded to a disorderly person call at a local gas station. As they exited their patrol car the suspect opened fire while hiding behind the service station. Both officers were struck by the gunfire and Sergeant West was killed. The suspect was apprehended later in the night and died in prison ten years later. Sergeant West had been with the agency for ten years.
