Incident
Deputy Sheriff Douglas Nanney was killed in a vehicle crash during a high-speed chase on Mifflin Road just east of Deep Gap Road in Jackson. At 2:30 a.m., Deputy Nanney radioed that he was pursuing a vehicle. He lost control of his patrol car and struck a telephone pole, causing his patrol car to explode. The driver did not stop to render aid. He was apprehended a few months later. Due to having no criminal record, he was given probation. Deputy Nanney had served with the Madison County Sheriff's Office for a year.

He was survived by his wife.
