Incident

Police Officer Donald Joseph Marquez was shot and killed as he was serving an arrest warrant in the 2400 block of North Avers Avenue.

A 77-year-old resident opened fire with two .22 caliber handguns. Officer Marquez was struck several times. He succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.

The assailant was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire with backup officers.

Officer Marquez was a 20-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department.

Survivors

He was survived by his wife, two sons, three daughters, a grandson, parents, and two sisters.
