David Thomas Robertson
Incident
Sheriff David Robertson was killed in an automobile crash while en route to visit one of his deputies who had been involved in an accident earlier in the day. Sheriff Robertson was traveling west on US 460 about 10 miles east of Lynchburg at 4:30 pm when the vehicle in front of him began skidding on the icy highway. He applied brakes to keep from hitting the car, causing his vehicle to skid, turning sideways, and was struck by a truck traveling east. Sheriff Robertson was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII and Purple Heart recipient. He had served as the Sheriff of the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office for 10 years and with the agency for 17 years.
Survivors
He was survived by his wife, who was in the car with him when the crash occurred.

Tributes
I served 1985 to 1993. You served too, before the badge - different uniform, same idea. You go where you are sent and you do not get to pick the call.
Sheriff Robertson gave the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office 17 years.
Thank you for your service to the Appomattox community, and for your service before it. Gone but never to be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother.
